The first-ever Pittsburgh Women in Mathematics and Computing Symposium (WMCS) was hosted at Carnegie Mellon University! The event, which took place on February 24, gathered a number of graduate students, as well as faculty members from various departments including Mathematics, ECE, Computer Science, Statistics, and Robotics. The day-long symposium showcased presentations by faculty and graduate students discussing their research, with the aim of providing undergraduate students insights into the expectations of a research career.

I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to help with the organization of the event, as part of the event planning committee. Within the organizing team, I discovered an incredible atmosphere primarily driven by mutual support. I’ve no doubt that mutual support was key in making this event a success! :muscle:

If you want to learn more about the event, you can visit the WMCS 2023 website and read the College of Engineering’s coverage of the event.

Looking forward to the next editions of WMCS :tada:
